This is about 4-5 miles there and back. We were staying in Borth y Gest, and fancied an explore! You go along the path by the dock and follow it up a set of stairs. Follow the toad, past the marina and then into Porthmadog.
I recommend the Australia pub for food and dog friendly company! (though most places are dog friendly in Porthmadog)
Then walk back the way you came. If you follow the path back the other way you will access miles of sandy beaches! But watch out for sinking sand!
